Looking For The Perfect Birthday Cake?
If you have a children’s birthday party to organise, you’ll know that one of the most important aspects is the cake. The tough choice comes when deciding to make one at home, buy straight from the shop or get a bespoke design. This article will give you some ideas on how to choose the best cake.
You could start by finding a book at the library that gives ideas for themed cakes and delicious recipes. Keep the design simple if you are baking for the first time, Nana’s come from an expert cake making generation, ask them for help. Eat and sample different cakes before you make a final decision & weigh up the costs before the ingredients.
Your child will have a favourite T.V/Book character you could incorporate into your design. Open your mind to the possibilities of a professional bespoke design. Usually bespoke cakes start from as little as 40.
You can find superior off the shelf cakes at places such as M&S, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s. You don’t necessarily have to buy the most expensive, as every cake is important to a kid. You will need to plan the cake a good few months in advance and remember that each bespoke cake is priced according to it’s design and weight.
On the big day, make sure the cake arrives on someone’s knee, don’t put it on the back shelf or boot of the car – this is asking for trouble. As parents like their children to consume cakes that aren’t filled with additives, colours and E numbers, think about replacing icing and marzipan with chocolate and butter cream. When the time comes to light the candles, never ask the children to touch matches and be sure that the guest don’t crowd around the cake. Make sure the camera comes out and keep taking pictures whilst the candles are lit. Another idea is to introduce a song whilst the cake is cut and give 3 cheers at the end.
When it comes to consuming, have one slice after the birthday song, alternatively put it in a party bag for them to take home. Remember to bring a sharp knife, some candles and a lighter/matches in a concealed plastic container. Although every kid loves cakes, a small slice each is plenty. Remember to keep any left overs fresh by placing in a tin.
Cling film/foil each slice before wrapping in a serviette. Avoid buying a cheaper, smaller cake – as you are likely to need 2 or 3. Keep the recipe or cake makers details for next year. Enjoy any sugary treat in moderation…It’s a special day after all!
A beautiful cake is a wonderful way to make childhood memories last forever.
